About the Free Order of Operations Worksheet Generator with Answer Keys

Choose from four levels:

  • no parentheses
  • with parentheses
  • parentheses and exponents
  • nested brackets and exponents

At the first level, students practice the basic rule: multiply and divide before adding and subtracting, working from left to right. The parentheses level adds grouping symbols, and the exponents level adds squares and cubes. The nested brackets level combines everything, with brackets inside parentheses, so students learn to work from the inside out.

You can use all four operations or leave out division. You also decide how many operations each problem has, from 2 to 5, and whether the numbers go up to 10, 12, or 20. Every problem works out to a whole number, and division always comes out even. Negative results are turned off by default, but you can allow them for older students.

You can print a short order of operations reminder at the top of the worksheet, and you can add space under each problem so students can show their work. You can also pick how many problems to include, from 10 to 30, and give the worksheet your own title.

The answer key shows each problem solved step by step, one operation at a time, so students can see exactly where they went wrong. If you only want the final answers, just switch the steps off. The answer key prints on a separate page, so you can hand out the worksheet and keep the answers for yourself. You can also print the answer key on its own, or save both pages as a PDF.

Every worksheet has a code printed at the bottom. Enter the same code with the same settings and you’ll get exactly the same worksheet again. That means you never have to save or store a worksheet. Write down the code, and you can print another copy for a student who was absent, or find the answer key when it’s time to grade. You can also click “Share worksheet” to send a link, so another teacher or a parent gets exactly the same problems. Click “New worksheet” any time you want a different set of problems.

Use these worksheets for classwork, homework, quick quizzes, warm-ups, or extra practice for students who need it. Since each worksheet is new, students can practice the order of operations as many times as they need.
