TRUCK PROBLEM and FRACTIONS

by Raj
(Toronto, Canada)

Raj's father went on a short trip in his truck. The 60 litre gas tank was full when he started the trip.

He used about 4/5's of the gasoline during the trip. How many litres did he have left in his tank?

Solution:

The fraction that is left is 5/5 - 4/5 = 1/5

And 1/5 of 60 = 1/5 times 60 = 60/5 = 12

Therefore, Raj has 12 liters of gas left in his tank.
