Mr. Yanaga's car has a gas tank that hold 16 gallons. he used 3/4 of a thank of gas. How many gallons of gas did he use?

We can break 16 down into 4 equal pieces

16 = 4 + 4 + 4 + 4

If you take 3 out of 4, the answer is 4 + 4 + 4 = 12
