Types of distributive property worksheets you can make:

  • Rewriting with numbers: like 4(3 + 5) = 4 × 3 + 4 × 5 = 32
  • Multiplying in your head: like 6 × 98 = 6 × 100 − 6 × 2 = 588
  • Expanding expressions: like 3(2x − 5) = 6x − 15 and 2x(3x + 1) = 6x² + 2x
  • Expanding and combining like terms: like 4(x + 2) − 3(2x − 1) = −2x + 11
  • Factoring out the greatest common factor: like 12x + 18 = 6(2x + 3)
  • Finding the missing number: like 3(x + ◻) = 3x + 12, where the missing number is 4
  • Area models: write the area of a rectangle split into two or three parts, like 6(40 + 3) = 6 × 40 + 6 × 3 = 258 or x(x + 7) = x² + 7x

Choose the signs and letters:

  • addition only: 3(x + 4)
  • addition and subtraction: 3(x − 4)
  • negative numbers too: −3(x − 4)
  • x and y only, or different letters like a, m, n and p
