Perimeter formulas

Here, find the perimeter formulas for some regular polygons. A regular polygon is a polygon with equal sides and equal angles.

If we let s be the length of one sides, we can find the perimeter as demonstrated in this lesson

Equilateral triangle:

Equilateral triangle with side s

Perimeter = s + s + s

Perimeter = 3 × s

For example, if s = 4 inches,   Perimeter = 3 × 4 = 12 inches

Rhombus:

Rhombus with side s

Perimeter = s + s + s + s

Perimeter = 4 × s

For example, if s = 5 meters,   Perimeter = 4 × 5 = 20 meters

Square:

Square with side s

Perimeter = s + s + s + s Perimeter = 4 × s

For example, if s = 6 meters,   Perimeter = 4 × 6 = 24 meters

Regular pentagon:

Regular pentagon with side s

Perimeter = s + s + s + s + s

Perimeter = 5 × s

For example, if s = 8 feet,   Perimeter = 5 × 8 = 40 feet

Regular hexagon:

Regular hexagon with side s

Perimeter = s + s + s + s + s + s

Perimeter = 6 × s

For example, if s = 5 feet,   Perimeter = 6 × 5 = 30 feet
